Penn State Berks Benefitting THON will host its sixth annual “Inspire the Night” Benefit Dinner Friday, Jan. 13, from 6 to 10 p.m.,at the DoubleTree by Hilton Reading. This event will provide an evening of fun, inspiration and is open to students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Tickets can be purchased directly through the Berks Benefitting THON website (sites.psu.edu/berksbenefittingthon77/inspire-the-night/). Individual tickets cost $65.
The event will immerse guests in an understanding of THON, an effort committed to enhancing the lives of children and families impacted by childhood cancer. Proceeds benefit Four Diamonds at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital.
Attendees will hear from families who have been impacted by pediatric cancer and benefited from the funds raised by THON. Ethosource Office Furniture will be recognized with the Lead Believer Award for its support of the organization. There will be a display of artwork created by third- and fourth-graders from Berks County elementary schools.

Polar Bear 5K
After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the Sierra Club – Lancaster Group is back with its Polar Bear 5K Trail Run/Hike. It will be held Jan. 15 at 10 a.m. in Lancaster County Central Park.
Runners, hikers and their dogs are invited to participate in the 13th annual event. Dogs must be leashed.
Race day registration and check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the park’s Pavilion 22 (Kiwanis Lodge).
Registration fee is $30 through Jan. 5; and $35 thereafter. Pre-registration closes Jan. 13, but registration on site will be accepted. Knit caps with the Polar Bear 5K logo are guaranteed for all those who register” by Jan. 5. People registering in advance can pick up their race packets Jan. 14 from 9 a.m. to noon at Lancaster County Motors Subaru, 1705 Manheim Pike, Lancaster.

New directors at Humane PA
The Humane Pennsylvania Board of Directors welcomes new members Caitlin Calvaresi, Bob Massino and Kevin Wolfe.
Humane PA board members are elected community volunteers who donate their expertise and time to govern the policies and finances of the organization.
Calvaresi is a commercial lines account executive for Tompkins Insurance Bank. Massino is vice president and cash management sales offficer for Tompkins Financial. Wolfe is a commercial real estate agent with NAI Keystone.
