The following area students at Kutztown University received Chambliss Student Academic Achievement Awards. Specially designed coin medallions of gold, silver and copper were presented to the students.
Sarah Gatehouse of Spring Township won gold. She graduated in December with highest honors and is pursuing a master of business administration degree. Gatehouse was honored for achievements in athletics. She is a two-time first team All-America selection for the Golden Bears field hockey team and helped lead KU to its first national championship.
Samantha Smith of Alburtis won copper. The senior psychology major was honored for outstanding service to the KU community. Her work addressing sexual and domestic violence included leadership in the “It’s On Us” initiative and research on intergenerational cycles of domestic violence.
Slippery Rock award
Leanne Digman, Denver, was honored with an Outstanding Student Academic Leader award at Slippery Rock University.
Digman, a junior recreational therapy major, is the secretary of the Recreational Therapy Club and a FYRST seminar peer leader. She is the founder and inaugural president of the Interprofessional Education Club and works to ensure the Brain Injury Support Program runs smoothly. In the RT Research Lab, she has helped organize and facilitate the research process for the falls prevention for older adults research grant. Her research poster won top honors at the American Therapeutic Recreation Association conference.
