Villanova showed how tough it is to win on the road in the Colonial Athletic Association in last week’s manhandling of Rhode Island.
The Wildcats found out the flipside Saturday.
Villanova turned the ball over five times and saw two touchdowns by Griffin Woodell lead the University of Albany to a 31-10 win at Casey Stadium.
The Wildcats (3-2, 1-1 CAA) tied the game at 10 early in the second quarter when Jaylan Sanchez hauled in a 17-yard touchdown from Connor Watkins.
Woodell scored on a 19-yard connection with Reese Poffenbarger with 19 seconds left in the first half to put Albany ahead. Then after a scoreless third quarter, Woodell ran for a three-yard score with 12:50 left.
Watkins threw the first of his two fourth-quarter interceptions, which allowed MarQueese Dietz to catch a four-yarder from Poffenbarger to cap the scoring.
Watkins was 17-for-31 for 198 yards. He was sacked seven times and lost a fumble. Sanchez led Nova with four catches for 50 yards but also lost a fumble. DeeWil Barlee (Episcopal Academy All-Delco) ran nine times for 71 yards.
Thaddeus Stevens 15, Williamson 7 >> Three second-half turnovers led the Mechanics to cough up a halftime lead.
Tanner Underwood hit Garrett Watkins for a 30-yard touchdown in the second quarter to put Williamson up. The Mechanics defense held Stevens to 59 yards in the first half. But Stevens responded for a pair of fourth-quarter scores to get the win.
