CAA Football: Connor Watkins leads Nova past Towson; Delaware routs Campbell

RADNOR — Connor Watkins threw for 299 yards and three first-half touchdowns, Rayjuon Pringle made five catches for 180 yards and two scores, and Villanova beat Towson 33-10 on Saturday for its fifth straight win.

Pringle’s 79-yard catch-and-run opened the scoring with 9:40 left in the first quarter. He added a 63-yarder with 2:43 left in the second quarter, and Watkins threw his third touchdown pass with 26 seconds remaining in the half for a 24-0 lead.

Villanova added two points in the fourth quarter on a sack in the end zone by Capri Martin.

The Wildcats entered with an average margin of victory of 23.8 points per game during their win streak. Villanova (8-2, 6-1 Coastal Athletic Association), Delaware (8-2, 6-1), Richmond and Albany are all tied at the top of the standings with one conference loss each.

Nova travels to Newark next Saturday to take on the Blue Hens. Albany hosts Monmouth Saturday while Richmond travels to nearby William & Mary.

Chris Watkins led Towson (4-6, 3-4) with 90 yards rushing, including a 75-yard score in the fourth.

Delaware 45, Campbell 7

The Blue Hens traveled to Buies Creek, N.C. and had an easy time of it there on Saturday.

Ryan O’Connor threw for 246 yards and four touchdowns. He threw a 51-yard scoring pass to Jourdan Townsend 3:15 into the game and a little more than three minutes later threw a 17-yard score to Joshua Youngblood.

Campbell responded by driving 77 yards in 11 plays to the Delaware 1. But on first-and-goal at the Delaware 5, Khalil Dawsey intercepted a Hajj-Malik Williams pass and ran it back 100 yards to push the lead to 21-0 with 3:34 left in the first quarter.

Down 38-0, Campbell scored when Williams ran it in from the 3 to conclude an eight-play, 75-yard drive with 49 seconds before the end of the third.

O’Connor completed 19 passes to 11 different targets for Delaware (8-2, 6-1 Coastal Athletic Association), which was coming off a 33-27 loss against Elon to snap a six-game winning streak.

Williams was intercepted two times for Campbell (4-6, 3-4).
