As Earth Day approaches on Tuesday, April 22, Commute PA is calling on commuters across the greater Susquehanna region to embrace alternative transportation options and play a vital role in easing local traffic congestion.
This Earth Day, Commute PA underscores the significant impact of choosing alternatives to driving alone. Options such as carpooling, vanpooling, utilizing public transportation, biking, walking, telecommuting, and even working a compressed work week schedule are crucial in reducing traffic bottlenecks throughout Pennsylvania communities, including right here in the greater Susquehanna area.
“Earth Day serves as an important reminder that we all have an opportunity to do our part and help take cars off the road,” said Matthew Boyer, Commute PA Executive Director.
Traffic congestion negatively affects productivity, elevates commuter stress, and burdens our infrastructure. By choosing shared rides, public transit, or active transportation, commuters can directly contribute to:
- Decreased traffic congestion: With more individuals sharing rides or using alternative modes, roadways become less crowded for everyone.
- Cost savings: Commuters can significantly reduce expenses on fuel, vehicle upkeep, and parking fees.
- Improved community well-being: Embracing walking and biking not only boosts personal physical health but also fosters more vibrant and connected neighborhoods.
Commute PA provides a suite of free resources and programs designed to help individuals explore and adopt these commuting alternatives, including:
- Carpool and vanpool matching services: Linking commuters who share routes and schedules.
- Public transportation information: Offering comprehensive details on regional bus, train, and other public transit services.
- Bike and walk commuting resources: Supplying valuable safety guidelines and route planning tools for active commuters.
- Incentive programs: Rewarding and recognizing individuals who choose non-drive-alone commuting methods.
To further encourage commuting this April to celebrate Earth Day, Commute PA is offering a special incentive: Commuters who live or work within Commute Pa’s nine county radius of Adams, Berks, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York counties who rethink their commutes and record just four non-drive-alone trips in their Commute PA account during the month of April will be automatically entered to win one of three $100 Tango gift cards!
Commute PA encourages all commuters in the greater Susquehanna region to explore their transportation options this Earth Day and discover the benefits of a less congested commute.
