Conrad Weiser stays unbeaten with convincing 38-3 victory

After a strong start to the regular season, Conrad Weiser continued to solidify its place in Section 3 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League with a 38-3 win over Manheim Central Friday night in Robesonia.

The Scouts (2-0, 5-0) were led on the ground by Javien Rivera who scored two rushing touchdowns and quarterback Donovan Gingrich threw two touchdown passes.

Conrad Weiser built a 24-0 lead at halftime after capitalizing on two turnovers by the Barons (0-1, 2-3).

After establishing an early 3-0 lead and allowing just one first down off a penalty during Manheim Central’s opening two drives, the Scouts ran a fake punt on fourth down from their own 42 to Rivera who took it 36 yards into Manheim Central territory.

Moments later, senior quarterback Donovan Gingrich completed a 16-yard pass to fellow senior Dylan Parr for the game’s first touchdown with 6:37 left in the second quarter.

The Scouts added to their momentum on the ensuing kickoff, as the Barons fumbled and Davis Keppley recovered for Conrad Weiser at the Manheim Central 14 yard line.

From there, the Scouts went on a 4-play drive that ended with a 4-yard yard touchdown run by Rivera to the right outside.

Later in the second, after the Barons picked up just their second first down of the first half, a fumble by Cody Hess on Manheim Central following a reception led to a recovery by Ashton Kiebach gave Conrad Weiser the ball at the Manheim Central 37.

The five play drive once again ended with another score by Rivera, who this time punched it in from the 2-yard line, making it 24-0 15.1 remaining in the opening half.

In the first half, Conrad Weiser held the Barons to under 50 yards of total offense. Rivera had 64 rushing yards as well as 14 receiving yards, and Gingrich went 7-for-9 passing for 89 yards and one touchdown in the first half.

After both sides failed to score on their opening possessions of the second half, the Scouts took over at their own 1-yard line. Despite the daunting field position, Gingrich made sure Conrad Weiser could keep the momentum rolling as he picked up an 84-yard run that set up a 15-yard touchdown run by Jonathan Mcquillen to make it 31-0.

Manheim Central’s lone score of the game from a 28-yard field goal by Katie White.

With 9:55 left in the game, Gingirch completed a 12-play, 80-yard drive with an 18-yard pass to Evan Rittle to start the running clock and close out the scoring.
