Conrad Weiser, Wyomissing set for District 3 team semifinals in girls tennis

Undefeated Conrad Weiser will try to take the next step toward successfully defending its Class 2A title Monday when it faces Kennard-Dale in the semifinals of the District 3 Girls Tennis Team Championships.

Fifteen-time champion Wyomissing, last year’s runner-up, will face Trinity in an attempt to make Wednesday’s championship match an all-Berks final for the second straight year.

First, top-seeded and Berks champion Conrad Weiser (14-0) must get past No. 4 Kennard-Dale (11-1) in a 2 p.m. match at Hershey Racquet Club. Third-seeded Wyomissing (13-2) follows against No. 2 seed Trinity (16-1) at 3:30 p.m.

The championship match is scheduled for Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Hershey Racquet Club.

The Scouts, led by two-time Berks Flight 1 singles champion Emma Perkins, opened the tournament with a 3-0 win over 2019 champion Lancaster Catholic.

Wyomissing downed Camp Hill 3-2 in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, but lost No. 1 singles player Aly Saad to an injury during the match. Saad did not play in the District 3 Singles Championships. Wyomissing No. 2 player Elise Wang played in the tournament and lost in the first round to No. 1 seed and eventual champion Anna Millen of Lancaster Catholic.

For the second straight year, Perkins did not play in district singles either. She is waiting to play with Conrad Weiser No. 2 player Michelle Timothy in the District 3 Doubles Championships that start Friday.

Kennard-Dale, a 3-0 winner over Lancaster Country Day in the quarterfinals, is led by Brianna Serruto. She won her first match in the district singles tournament before losing to eventual runner-up Mia Gassert of Hamburg in the quarterfinals.

Trinity, which defeated West York 3-1 in the quarterfinals, did not have a player in the singles tournament.
