Conrad Weiser’s Armaan Malik and Jio Garcia finished third in doubles in Class 2A at the District 3 Boys Tennis Championships Saturday at Hershey Racquet Club to qualify for the PIAA championships.
Malik and Garcia, who were seeded second, defeated Bermudian Springs’ Parker Sanders and Eli Snyder 6-4, 6-1 in the third-place match to earn the district’s final state berth. They will face the District 7 champions in the first round on Friday, May 26, at Hershey Racquet Club.
Earlier Saturday in the semifinals, Malik and Garcia lost to third-seeded Carson Weigle and Julian Clark of Lancaster Country Day 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.
Lancaster Country Day’s top-seeded team of Freddie Bloom and Michael Georgelis won the title when Weigle and Clark defaulted. Weigle reportedly was having back issues.
Before the state doubles tournament, Malik, Garcia and their Conrad Weiser teammates will take part in the PIAA team tournament.
The District 3 runner-up Scouts (19-2) will face District 6 champ Westmont Hilltop in a Class 2A first-round match Tuesday at the Gorilla House Gym in Altoona at 1 p.m.
