Crews contain fire near elementary center in Mount Penn

Fire crews are on the scene of a residential fire in the middle of Mount Penn.

The fire was reported about 7:15 a.m. in the 2400 block of Grant Street, near North 25th Street. Callers reported smoke coming from the windows of the building, which is about a block from Mount Penn Elementary Center.

Fire commanders struck a second alarm to draw additional crews to the neighborhood, but some of those units were put on standby because firefighters got control of the fire within about 10 minutes of arrival.
