Daniel Alcantara scores 1,000th career point as Reading High beats Wyomissing in BCIAA quarterfinals

Daniel Alcantara scored 20 points, including the 1,000th of his career, and Aris Rodriguez had a career-high 21 to lead Reading High to an 83-42 victory over Wyomissing in a Berks Conference quarterfinal game Monday at the Geigle.

The top-seeded Red Knights (20-3) will face fourth-seeded Muhlenberg, a 70-48 winner over Fleetwood in another quarterfinal, in the second game of a semifinal doubleheader Wednesday at Santander Arena.

Second-seeded Berks Catholic will play sixth-seeded Exeter in the first game at 6 p.m.

Alcantara, who came into the game needing 11 points for 1,000, hit the milestone with a 3-pointer in the first quarter as Reading High raced to a 31-14 lead. Ruben Rodriguez had nine of his 11 points in the first for the Red Knights.

Reading’s lead grew to 48-24 at halftime and was 63-32 after three.

Aris Rodriguez, a junior, scored 16 points in the fourth quarter.

Also for the Red Knights, Xavier Davis finished with 13 points and Myles Grey had 12.

Julian O’Brien led eighth-seeded Wyomissing (12-10) with 26 points.
