Gov. Mifflin, the 10th seed, knocked off second-seeded Mechanicsburg Friday night in the quarterfinals of the District 3 boys basketball tournament as Matt Koehler scored 16 points.
The Mustangs (17-7) advance to Tuesday’s semifinals to face the winner of Cumberland Valley-Central Dauphin. Because both are higher seeds, the Mustangs will be on the road Tuesday.
The win automatically qualifies for the Mustangs for the PIAA tournament.
Gov. Mifflin jumped to a 12-7 lead after the first quarter, as Koehler scored five points, Jahmair Johnson had four and Andrew Galantuomo hit a three-pointer.
The Mustangs led by one at the half, 17-16, and 28-25 after three quarters.
In the final period, Koehler scored five points and Stephen Mayo and Galantuomo each had three points.
The Mustangs overcame a 7 of 20 shooting night at the four line to advance.
Cocalico 54, Conrad Weiser 50
Gavin Deluca and Corden Ochs each scored 13 points as Cocalico defeated Conrad Weiser 54-50 in a District 3 Class 5A boys consolation game.
The Scouts were led by Brady McKee who had 14 points.
Girls
Northern Lebanon 36, Berks Catholic 33
Olivia Shutter scored 12 points to lead Northern Lebanon to a 36-33 win over Berks Catholic in the quarterfinals of the Class 4A girls tournament on Friday night.
Northern Lebanon, the second seed, hosts third-seeded and two-time defending district champion Wyomissing in the semifinals at Tuesday.
Wyomissing (20-2) advanced with a win over Susquehanna Township on Friday night.
For the seventh-seeded Saints (11-12), Sydney Corado had 11 points.
The Saints drop into the consolation bracket and will play Tuesday against an opponent and at a site to be determined.
