District 3 boys basketball: Berks Catholic and Linville Hill Christian battle in non-league game

In a matchup of top-ranked District 3 teams, Linville Christian defeated Berks Catholic 63-61 in a boys basketball game on Wednesday night.

Linville Christian (18-2) is the top ranked team in Class 2A in the district and Berks Catholic (17-4) is the top ranked team in Class 4A.

Stephen Smucker scored 10 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter as Linville Christian held off the Saints, as Berks Catholic 18-17 outscored Linville in the final eight minutes.

For the Saints, Kingston McKoy scored 26 points and Zach Suski had 23.

Linville Christian took a 15-11 lead after one quarter as Giovanni Sejuste scored six points and Jackson Petersheim added five.

Berks Catholic closed the gap to 28-27 at halftime as McKoy scored six points and Suski four in the second quarter.

Petersheim (23 points in the game) hit three three-pointers in the third quarter as Linville opened a 46-43 lead with one quarter to play.

Conrad Weiser 59, Fleetwood 29

Evan Miller and Donovan Gingrich each scored 11 points as the Scouts defeated the Tigers 59-29 on Wednesday.

Ten different players scored for Conrad Weiser.

For Fleetwood, Mason Senna had 11 points.

Gov. Mifflin 47, Hempfield 37

Andrew Galantuomo scored 17 points to lead the Mustangs to a 47-37 non-league win.

Matt Koehler chipped in 10 for Gov. Mifflin.
