District 3 boys volleyball: Gov. Mifflin, Brandywine Heights advance

Gov. Mifflin, the Berks County champion and the second seed, blanked Carlisle 28-26, 25-15, 25-19 in the first round of the District 3 Class 3A boys volleyball tournament on Tuesday.

For the Mustangs (17-0), BCIAA Player of the Year Angel Bermudez had 32 assists, 4 digs and an ace, and Carter Weyant had 10 kills, 9 digs, 5 blocks and an ace. Also, Armani George had 11 kills and 4 blocks, and Evan Byrne had 7 kills and a block.

Gov. Mifflin will play the winner of the Central Dauphin-Cocalico match in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Gov. Mifflin.

Class 2A

Brandywine Heights 3, York Catholic 0

Brandywine Heights defeated York Catholic 25-5, 25-15, 25-11 in the first round of the District 3 Class 2A boys volleyball tournament on Tuesday night.

For the Bullets (16-3), Auston Ambruster had an ace, 10 kills, 2 blocks. 15 assists and 5 digs, Bergen Smeltz had – 6 kills, a block and a dig.

Also, Eagan Coffin had 5 aces, 6 kills and 5 digs, Gavin Geiger had 8 aces, 13 kills, 2 blocks and6 digs, and Kido Hogan had 2 aces, 4 kills, 22 assists and 2 kills.

The third-seeded Bullets advance to the quarterfinals where they will play the winner of West Shore Christian and New Covenant Christian. That match will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Brandywine Heights.
