District 3 Class 5A boys basketball: Exeter’s run continues with another OT win

Jayden Ware scored five points in overtime as Exeter scored a dramatic 56-52 win over York Suburban in the District 3 Class 5A boys basketball semifinals on Tuesday night, the second overtime win for the Eagles in the tournament.

The Eagles (15-10) were the eighth seed coming into the tournament and York Suburban (19-7) was the fourth seed.

Exeter will play for the district title at 6:15 p.m. Friday at the Giant Center in Hershey against the winner of Hershey-West York.

After losing in the quarterfinals of the BCIAA tournament to Gov. Mifflin, the Eagles have rattled off three straight wins to make the district championship game.

In the first round of districts, they beat ninth-seeded Middletown 60-53 in overtime. In the quarterfinals, they downed 16th-seeded Spring Grove, which had ousted top-seeded Manheim Central in the first round, 58-50.

On Tuesday night, Aidan Dauble led the Eagles with 16 points, Dylan Donate had 15 points and Braylon Reinert chipped in 11.

Exeter trailed 16-10 after the first quarter, but Donate scored six points and Dauble five as the Eagles took a 28-24 halftime lead.

York Suburban closed the gap to 41-38 after three quarters, and then sent the game to overtime as both teams struggled to score, with York Suburban outscoring the Eagles 8-5 in the final eight minutes.

In the overtime, along with Ware’s five points, Donate hit three free throws and Carter Redding made two.
