District 3 consolation games: Gov. Mifflin, Wilson win in Class 6A boys

Matt Koehler scored five points and Jahmair Johnson had four points in overtime as Gov. Mifflin defeated Chambersburg 60-55 in the District 3 Class 6A third-place game on Thursday night.

As the third-place finisher in the district, the Mustangs (18-8) will open play in the PIAA tournament on Saturday, March 8 against the District 7 fourth-place finisher.

In the extra session, Koehler made 5 of 6 free throws, Johnson made a basket and two free throws and Ian Fleming had three points.

The Mustangs led 8-5 after the first quarter as Johnson scored six points, hitting two 3-pointers.

Chambersburg bounced back to take a 19-16 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Koehler scored 8 points and the Mustangs trailed 36-30.

In the fourth quarter, Fleming and Andrew Galantuomo each scored four points as the Mustangs rallied to send the game to overtime.

Koehler and Johnson each finished with 16 points.

Wilson 66, Mechanicsburg 56

Luke Levan scored 21 points as Wilson defeated Mechanicsburg 66-56 Thursday for fifth place in the District 3 Class 6A boys basketball tournament.

The Bulldogs (19-6) will play the District 1 runner-up in the opening round of the PIAA playoffs on Saturday, March 8.

Levan scored 10 points and Madyx Gruber had 11 in the first half as the Bulldogs wiped out a 13-12 deficit after the first quarter to take a 35-23 lead at halftime.

Wilson, the fifth seed in the tournament, extended the lead to 51-36 after three quarters as Correll Akings scored five points and Levan and Jon Etim had four each in the third quarter.

Levan made all five of his free throws in the last quarter and a basket as Wilson fended off second-seeded Mechanicsburg (20-3).

As the sixth place team in District 3, Mechanicsburg opens PIAA play next Saturday against the District 1 champion.

Gruber finished with 13 points and Etim had 9.
