District 3 track and field championships: Berks has three top seeds in the Class 3A meet

Fresh off a sweep of the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs in the BCIAA Firing Meet, Daniel Boone sophomore Julia Leady is the top seed in both events for this weekend’s District 3 Class 3A Track and Field Championships.

Berks has one other top seed in the 3A meet in Exeter senior Logan Wegman, who enters the shot put competition with a best of 58-11.

The meet is Friday and Saturday at Shippensburg University.

Leady will run the 3,200 on Friday night and leads the field with a time of 10:38.33 which she ran in winning the race at the Firing Meet. Senior Olivia Magagna of Lampeter-Strasburg is the second seed at 10:48.44.

Leady has the fastest time in the 1,600 at 4:59.69 which she ran on April 19 at the Leonard Stephan Invitational.

Wegman has the best mark in the shot put by more than a foot with Elizabethtown senior Brendan Rilatt second at 57-4¾. Wegman is also seeded fifth in the discus (162-11).

Reading High’s Xavier Beatty, the defending champion in the long jump, is seeded second in that event (23-10) and second in the triple jump (47-3¼).

Palmyra senior Jacob Burgess has the top mark in the long jump (24-3½) and New Oxford junior Brayden Billman has the top mark in the triple jump (47-10¼).

Beatty won the long jump last year with a leap of 23-9. He did not compete in the triple jump last year.

Gov. Mifflin senior Tristan Shayo is seeded second in the 110 hurdles at 14.27 with Palmyra senior Tyler Burgess the top seed at 13.28. Conrad Weiser senior Gavin Rapp is seeded fourth at 14.53. Shayo is also seeded fifth in the 300 hurdles (39.07)

Exeter junior Chase Choudhry is seeded second in the 3,200-meter run (9:11.59)

Twin Valley is seeded fourth in the boys 4 x 400 relay (3:22.81) and the Raiders’ Ben Grundy, a junior, is seeded fourth in the 400 (49.40)

In the girls meet, Wilson junior Violet Houck is second seeded in the 100 hurdles at 14.29 with Spring Grove junior Ella Bahn the top seed (13.97). Houck’s teammate, freshman Jade Lee, is seeded fourth in the event (14.59), and Gov. Mifflin sophomore Bridget Martin is seeded fifth (14.65).

Houck is also seeded second in the 300 hurdles at 43.49, with Bahn again ahead of her at 42.64. Twin Valley junior Hailey Kilgore is seeded third (43.90).

Twin Valley sophomore Corinne Logan is seeded second in the triple jump (37-6) with Eastern Lebanon senior Makenna Haas the top seed at 38-8¼.

Gov. Mifflin’s 4 x 800 relay is seeded second (9:33.89) with Dallastown the top seed at 9:23.74.

Twin Valley sophomore Addison Nudy is seeded fourth in the high jump (5-4), Exeter sophomore Cara Miller is fourth in the pole vault (12-0), Wilson junior Maddie Henne is seeded fourth in the discus (130-10) and Gov. Mifflin junior Emily Yerger is seeded fourth in the javelin (128-9).

The top five finishers in each event automatically qualify for the PIAA Championships May 23-24 at Shippensburg, and any sixth through eighth place finisher who betters the state qualifying standard at the district meet also advances to the state meet.
