In a highly competitive and impactful day of boys’ golf Tuesday at Penn Oaks Golf Club, host West Chester Rustin and rival Unionville battled to a 187-187 draw. The Knights, however, won it in a match of cards as their sixth player shot a 41 while the Longhorns’ sixth man carded a 42.
It was actually a Ches-Mont American tri-meet as Kennett shot a 203 and fell to Rustin by 16 shots. The ’Horns Cole Donnelly was the medalist with a 1-under-par 34, and teammate Charlie Barrickman added a 35. Anesti Kalderemtzis paced Rustin with a 36 and Ian Rotto led the way for the Blue Demons (6-4, 8-7 overall) with a 37.
Since Unionville beat the Knights by three earlier this season, the Longhorns captured the Ches-Mont American regular season crown for the second straight season. Rustin, however, lost out to Downingtown West at Monday’s Ches-Mont Championship, which means the Whippets have qualified as a team to go to the District 1 Tournament along with Unionville. West Chester Henderson will join those two at districts if it can beat Bishop Shanahan in a dual meet Wednesday to win the C-M National.
The two-day, 36-hole district tournament is scheduled for Oct. 13-14 at Turtle Creek Golf Club.
