The Belvederes Drum and Bugle Corps was honored by local governments at the Nov. 15 Schuylkill Haven Borough Council meeting.
The group received proclamations from council and the Schuylkill County commissioners on what was named Drum and Bugle Corps Day in the borough.
In other business, council approved the opening of a new bank account for the Hometown Heroes Banner Project. The borough will be responsible for collecting the money for anyone wanting to purchase a hometown hero banner and will provide new order forms.
A 2023 Pennsylvania Grid Resilience Grants Program Commitment Letter was approved. Back in March, it was announced that American Municipal Power, Inc., the nonprofit corporation that owns and operates Schuylkill Haven’s electric facilities, was looking to make the process of monitoring individual property electric usage more efficient.
The improved monitoring is called Advanced Meter Infrastructure and integrates smart meters, networks, and data management to better manage electrical usage in the borough.
Funding was being made available from the U.S. Department of Energy through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The local company’s application for that grant was not approved by federal officials, but there is another opportunity to apply for funds through the state Department of Environmental Protection. The borough has been granted conditional approval to provide a commitment letter stating that it supports AMP’s grant submission.
An EPPG Pool Agreement and Resolution/Ordinance was passed stating that the borough’s municipal system is interconnected to the PP&L transmission system, which is operated by PJM, a regional transmission organization. This updated agreement brings the contract up to date to formalize the way that members are operating and invoiced for power supply and delivery costs.
Also approved was a letter from Hess Catering to permit keeping a cooler trailer by M&T Bank for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The borough Christmas tree lighting will be held Nov. 26 at 5 p.m.
