Evan Myers leads Twin Valley to win over Berks Catholic in high school football

Twin Valley picked up right where it left off last season as the Raiders dominated Berks Catholic in a  season-opening high school football game Friday night at Forino Sports Complex, winning 42-16.

On the Raiders (1-0) second possession of the game, senior quarterback Evan Myers got rolling with back-to-back completions to Ben Grundy to pick up 33 yards.

Two plays later Myers took it 45 yards on the ground to get in the endzone for the first score of the season.

On their ensuing possession, Myers rolled out to his left to connect with a wide open Matt Knight for a score through the air to make the score 14-0.

To begin the second quarter, the Saints (0-1) went three-and-out having to punt from their own 29-yard line.

After a fumbled snap from Devyn Sutton, Raiders’ Ryan Rementer scooped up the football and took it to the house with an entourage around him.

With 6:23 remaining in the second, Berks Catholic got on the board with a 32-yard field goal from Tyler Osorio.

Evan Myers than threw an interception to Owen Schalk on their next series but the Saints could not capitalize.

The Raiders forced before putting together a 12-play 72 yard drive then ended with a 2-yard score from Lucas Myers.

The Saints trailed 28-3 at halftime.

The Raiders continued to dominate on offense as Drew Engle scored on a 42 yard run on their first series of the half.

After a Nate Rose fumble for Berks Catholic on the ensuing possession, Myers connected with Ben Grundy for a 47 yard score to lead 42-3.

With 7:32 remaining in the third, the running clock was in effect the rest of the way.

The Saints scored two fourth quarter touchdowns to soften the first loss of the season.

Senior Zach Suski connected with Rose for a three yard score. After a Twin Valley three-and-out, Faith Zudie blocked and recovered the punt in the endzone for the final score of the game.

Evan Myers completed 11-of-16 with 225 yards and two touchdowns through the air. He also rushed for 109 yards and one score on the ground.

Evan Johnson rushed for 104 yards and one touchdown on 12 carries for Twin Valley.

For Berks Catholic, Suski completed 12-of-16 for 134 yards and one touchdown.

Twin Valley was 10-2 last year. Berks Catholic was 5-6.
