Expect delays as Route 422 project in Montgomery is set to start Monday

PennDOT has announced that construction activities will begin Monday on an $83.6 million project to reconstruct and improve a stretch of Route 422 and to replace two bridges between the Sanatoga Interchange and Porter Road in Lower Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County.

The project is designed to improve ride quality and safety as well as improve stormwater basins, drainage inlets, slope stabilization, guiderail and signs.

A culvert at Sprogels Run, just east of Porter Road, and a single-span bridge carrying Route 422 over Porter Road will be removed and replaced with a new two-span bridge.

The bridge carrying Route 422 over Sanatoga Road and Sanatoga Creek will be reconstructed and widened.

Other improvements include:

• Reconstructing and lengthening the acceleration ramp from the Sanatoga Interchange (Township Line Road) to westbound Route 422.

• Constructing sound barriers along portions of westbound Route 422.

• Upgrading existing signage and installing new signage.

• Replacing the closed system drainage system and cross culverts, and improving stormwater management facilities.

Officials said a slow-moving shoulder closure will be in place Monday and Tuesday on westbound Route 422 between Evergreen Road and Armand Hammer Boulevard from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., and eastbound from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Surveying crews will be preparing the area in advance of the placement of construction barriers and other early-stage construction that is scheduled to begin after the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area because backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
