From FaithCare
FaithCare, a Berks County-based nonprofit that provides free healthcare to the uninsured and underserved locally and abroad, will host its annual Global Impact Conference & Banquet on Friday, Oct. 24, and Saturday, Oct. 25.
Since its founding in 1994, FaithCare has evolved into a global network that brings health, hope, and healing to thousands each year. In 2025 alone, volunteers conducted six international missions, serving 11,565 patients overseas — a 57% increase compared with 2023, when 7,328 were treated.
Locally, the Reading headquarters at 621 Centre Ave. continues to expand services. Upcoming leadership additions and new initiatives are expected to more than double the number of patients served annually at the clinic, which currently cares for about 200 people each year.
FaithCare is also expanding its reach:
- A new chapter in Harrisburg opened in 2024, joining Reading, Fort Myers, FL, and Nigeria.
- The first full medical mission to a new chapter in Sierra Leone is scheduled for February 2026.

Stories of Impact
Behind every number is a life changed. Recent examples include:
In Reading, a 3-year-old girl received a leg brace funded by the Arthur O. and Clara M. Schlegel Memorial Fund of Berks County Community Foundation. The brace corrected in-toeing and allowed her to walk confidently. The Reading clinic is actively seeking volunteer doctors, nurses, and interpreters to meet rising demand.

In Port Harcourt, Nigeria, a woman with a life-threatening fibroid tumor received free surgery from a FaithCare team. Days later, she returned smiling and grateful, transformed by the care.

On that same mission, a young boy with acute appendicitis was treated at no cost after his mother could not afford surgery from providers in that country. FaithCare physicians operated, saving his life.
