Fire contained at home in southeastern Berks

Crews quickly contained a fire Wednesday afternoon at a home in Douglass Township, fire officials said.

Crews responded reports of the fire in the 400 block of Old Philadelphia Pike about 3:10 p.m.

A small fire started in mulch bed and spread up a tree and onto the Cape Cod-style home, according to Mike Zomolsky, fire chief with Amity Fire and Rescue.

The fire was under control about 3:25 p.m., with crews then checking the structure for smoldering remains.

The damage to the home was minimal, consisting of some minor fire damage to the exterior and smoke damage inside, Zomolsky said.

He said the homeowner was able to remain in the home after the fire.

No one was injured during the blaze, Zomolsky noted.
