First-round pairings are announced for PIAA boys, girls basketball playoffs

The PIAA basketball playoffs begin this week, with nine Berks teams — six boys and three girls — having qualified.

Reading High is the defending champ in Class 6A boys.

Here’s is the schedule for the first-round games Tuesday and Wednesday:

Boys

Class 6A: 1-12 Downingtown West (16-9) at 3-1 Reading High (25-3), Wednesday, 7 p.m.

Class 5A: 3-7 Exeter (13-14) at 1-1 Chester (18-3), Tuesday, 7 p.m.

Class 4A: 12-5 Archbishop Carrol (13-10) at 3-1 Berks Catholic (23-4), Tuesday, 7 p.m.

Class 3A: 3-3 Tulpehocken (19-6) vs. 12-2 West Catholic Prep (19-5), at Bonner Prendergast, Drexel Hill, Wednesday, 7:30 p.m.

Class 2A: 3-2 Antietam (20-5) vs. 2-1 Holy Cross (19-6), at Lackawanna College, Scranton, Wednesday, 7 p.m.

Class 1A: 3-4 High Point (21-6) at 4-1 St. John Neumann (22-3), Tuesday, 7 p.m.

Girls

Class 5A: 3-6 Twin Valley (16-10) at 2-1 Abington Heights (19-6), Wednesday, 7 p.m.
