Fleetwood kicked off its 150th anniversary Saturday with a competition among young women and girls at Fleetwood High School.
Winners of the Fleetwood Pageant were as follows: Giahna Strahin, Little Miss Fleetwood; Paisley Grace Byrniarski, Junior Miss Fleetwood; Natalie Cabera, Miss Fleetwood; and Julia Kaskey, Ms. Fleetwood.
All four winners are attending or have attended schools in the Fleetwood School District.
Strahin is in second grade at Andrew Maier Elementary school. Bryniarski is in third grade at Willow Creek Elementary School. Cabrera attends Fleetwood Middle School. Kaskey, a Fleetwood High graduate, is studying biochemistry on a premedical track at Temple University.
Kelly Ebeling Schaeffer, chairwoman of the 150th anniversary, Mayor Tammy Gore and Doris Seoane Jaeger, Fleetwood’s 1973 Centennial Queen, crowned the winners. Each participant was chosen based on their love of Fleetwood and the memories each participant was making, organizers said.
“Twenty-four contestants represented the new Fleetwood, and really, everyone was a winner,” Ebeling-Schaeffer said in the announcement of the winners. “Each of these young ladies represent the future and their love for Fleetwood. It was the perfect evening to kick off the celebration.”
Contestants took part in preliminary interviews with the judges and were asked questions about their love of Fleetwood and experience of growing up in the town.
Tom Frank served as the emcee for the event, and the judges were Jeanette DeAngelo, Doris Seoane Jaeger and Eric Schaeffer.
The winners will be appearing in upcoming events including the 150th Celebration Parade on Sept. 30. The borough’s celebration continues through the end of the year.
