Fleetwood Santa Parade celebrates holidays

Fleetwood Borough kicked off a weekend of holiday celebrations with its annual tree lighting ceremony held in Fleetwood Park on Friday, Dec 13.

Chris Young of the Fleetwood Recreation Board said the annual tree lighting ceremony was a huge success.

“Thanks to all who braved the cold night to enjoy this festive event,” Young said in a statement.

Hosted by the recreation board, the free event featured caroling around the tree, free hot chocolate and cookies, crafts by Fleetwood Area Public Library, story time by Mrs. Claus and a chance for children to meet Santa. The Grinch also made an appearance.

Young thanked all who assisted, including the Fleetwood High School Band for providing the great music, Fleetwood Volunteer Fire Company for delivering Santa on his appointed round, Fleetwood Police Department for assisting with the Grinch, and Fleetwood Borough Public Works (especially Ricky and Neil) for the great holiday decorations. Fleetwood Area Public Library manned the concession stand and provided crafts for the children. Fleetwood Scouts and Cub Scouts and their families set up luminaria on the Fleetwood Park paths.

“The night was magical because of the hard work put in by all!” said Young.

The holiday festivities continued the following day on Saturday, Dec. 14.

The YMCA of Reading and Berks County hosted Fleetwood’s Annual Santa Parade starting at the Fleetwood Area High School parking lot, leading through town and ending on Arch Street in Fleetwood. The parade featured costumed walkers and floats by businesses, Scouts, nonprofits and organizations as well as music by the Fleetwood High School Marching Band.
