Excessive rainfall could lead to flash flooding as showers and thunderstorms move across the Lehigh Valley, eastern Pennsylvania and part of New Jersey on Monday afternoon and night.
The entire region is under a flood watch from 2 p.m. Monday through 2 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. There is a moderate risk of excessive rainfall that could lead to flash flooding, the weather service warns.

Counties in the NWS flood watch are: Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Montgomery and Northampton in Pennsylvania and Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Somerset and Warren in New Jersey.
“Numerous flash floods can be anticipated across portions of the region due to scattered thunderstorms producing heavy rainfall,” the weather service’s Mount Holly, New Jersey, forecast office posted on X.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop by early Monday afternoon. Storms could produce rainfall rates exceeding 2 inches per hour, which could easily lead to flash flooding, according to the weather service.
Total rainfall amounts of 3-5 inches are possible in some areas, according to the weather service.

Excessive runoff from the storms could result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and poor drainage areas, according to the flood watch.
While the main threat from Monday’s storms will be flooding, “a few isolated severe thunderstorms with damaging winds are possible,” the weather service said.
