A sobriety checkpoint was conducted from 10 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday on southbound Route 61 in Shoemakersville, according to state police at Hamburg.
Troopers made contact with 219 motorists. There was one arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence, one arrest for underage consumption of alcohol, two arrested for possession of small amounts of marijuana, and six warnings issued.
The checkpoint was part of an effort by law-enforcement around the state to make travel safer by discouraging driving under the influence and taking offenders off the roads.
State police have been conducting increased patrols to look for drivers who show signs of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs and take appropriate enforcement action.
