From the Ground Up: Spring plant sales in Delaware Valley and beyond

Spring is here and so much is blooming, but flowers aren’t the only things sprouting right now. Throughout this month and next you’ll find a host of plant sales popping up in our area. Following is a list of all the ones I know about; there may be others.

A few tips, before you go to any of these sales:

• Visit the websites for specifics on what types of plants will be available.

• Plan to arrive early—plants sell quickly.

• Pay attention to what types of payment are accepted.

• Bring a cart/wagon or large basket to tote your purchases.

April 12-27 Stoneleigh Native Plant Sale. The sale begins with online ordering that opens on 4/12 (for Natural Lands members) and 4/13 for nonmembers. Different from all of these sales is Ladew Topiary Gardens’ annual Garden Festival. In their words, the festival has become “the most anticipated specialty plant, garden ornaments, and antiques sale in the region. [You can] shop from a curated collection of 40 exclusive vendors from across the eastern seaboard offering hard-to-find perennials, specialty annuals, unique small trees, unusual exotics, container specialties, decorative garden furniture, urns, and architectural treasures.” There is an entrance fee with ticket prices ranging from $20-$75 for non-members.
