Gardening plots available in Schuylkill Haven

Schuylkill Haven Borough Council wants residents to be aware of the availability of gardening plots.

Borough secretary Kaitlyn Tinari says anyone interested in a plot for gardening should contact the recreation center at 570-385-1313.

The borough recently took control of helping facilitate the community garden. Because of this, council at its Jan. 17 meeting approved opening an account at First Citizens Community Bank for funds from the garden.

The Schuylkill Haven Recreation Department will once again be stocking trout at Island Park and Bubeck Park. The initiative joins with Schuylkill Headwaters in an effort to elevate the trout population in the borough.

“Last year, when we started this historical project, we were unsure how it would go,” recreation department officials wrote in their announcement of the news. But “with the help of the community, we had a glowing success.”

There will be four stockings in the spring, and they will be open to the public. Community members and families are welcome to be a part of the event.

Stockings will happen on April 5 at 6 p.m., April 13 at 9 a.m., April 20 at 9 a.m. and April 28 at 9 a.m. Each event will begin at Stoyers Dam following stockings at Island Park.
