Tower Health staff are encouraging area women to get in the game and schedule their annual mammogram screenings as a part of a special “Slam Dunk Mammo Screening” Month throughout March.

From March 1 to March 31, women who make an appointment for their annual screening mammogram (appointment date can be any month) or complete their annual screening mammogram at any Tower Health location will be entered to win a “Slam Dunk Mammo” prize, such as a Lululemon small sling bag, Nike Dunk Low Next Nature, and Apple Watch SE.

“Early detection is key,” said Dr. Kendra Winter, breast surgeon at Tower Health Medical Group Breast Health Center Wyomissing. “Our goal at Tower Health is to talk about the importance of breast health and mammograms all year long so if patients do have a concern, we can meet with them and address it as soon as possible.”

One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, and many have no family history of breast cancer. The Community Wellness Departments at each of Tower Health’s hospitals developed “Slam Dunk Mammo Screening Month” as an additional way to reach women outside the traditional window of promoting breast cancer awareness in October. The goal of the systemwide effort is to increase awareness about the importance of mammograms and early detection of breast cancer, especially for women in targeted areas with lower screening rates as identified by the Community Health Needs Assessment.

“We all know a woman who puts the needs of her family before herself,” said Barb O’Connor, Director of Community Health and Outreach at Phoenixville Hospital. “This campaign is to help remind women of the importance of their annual mammogram so they can continue to be there for those they love.”
