No. 1 Gov. Mifflin 9, No. 8 Kutztown 1
Thursday at Owls Field, Travis Jenkins went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, four RBIs and two runs scored to help lead top-seeded Gov. Mifflin to a win over Kutztown in a Berks baseball quarterfinal.
Also for the Mustangs (16-3), Matt Koehler went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.
With the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth, Joey Berg hit a two-run single to score Koehler and Dylan Barrett and give Gov. Mifflin the lead it would keep for good. Koehler hit a two-run single in the fifth to give the Mustangs a 7-1 lead before Jenkins hit a two-run home run in the sixth.
Jenkins and Ethan Grim also had RBI singles in the fifth.
Ashton Dunn had two hits and a steal for the Cougars (11-10). Grim earned the win for Gov. Mifflin, while Colin Diehl took the loss for Kutztown.
No. 2 Twin Valley 5, No. 7 Oley Valley 4
Thursday at Laureldale, Roman Cieless went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI to help lead Twin Valley to a win over Oley Valley in nine innings in a Berks baseball quarterfinal.
Jon Oxendine earned the win for the Raiders (15-4) and struck out eight batters over five innings. He allowed four hits and three runs, two of which were earned.
For the Lynx (11-8), Colin Remmel hit a double and had two RBIs and Gryffin Cappellano went 1-for-3 with a double.
Chase Kegerise took the loss for Oley Valley. He walked six batters and struck out three.
No. 3 Wilson 7, No. 6 Berks Catholic 2
Nick Fiorini went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored to help lead Wilson over Berks Catholic in a Berks baseball quarterfinal on Thursday at Laureldale.
The Bulldogs (14-6) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings.
Pitcher Christo Hunsicker, who struck out two batters, earned the win for Wilson. He also went 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
Trey Stricker picked up the loss for the Saints (16-4) and struck out six. He allowed eight hits, two walks, six runs (four earned) and was 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI double.
With the win, Wilson advances to the semifinals, where it will take on Twin Valley on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Owls Field.
No. 5 Fleetwood 1, No. 4 Muhlenberg 0
Nate Seidel recorded an RBI in the top of the sixth inning to lift Fleetwood over Muhlenberg in a Berks baseball quarterfinal on Thursday at Owls Field.
Liam Hilburt pitched a complete-game shutout for the Tigers (13-7). He struck out four and allowed just two hits and two walks.
Cam Burr took the loss for the Muhls (13-7). He recorded eight strikeouts over six innings.
With the win, Fleetwood advances to the semifinals, where it will take on Gov. Mifflin on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Owls Field.
