from Reading Public Museum
The Reading Public Museum, in partnership with WORMS Hardscaping & Landscaping, New Castle Lawn & Landscaping Inc., and the Pa Freemasons Chandler Lodge #227, is excited to announce the groundbreaking ceremony for the Robert W.F. Ciferri Sensory Garden at the Reading Public Museum. This thoughtfully designed sensory garden is a transformative space where visitors of all ages, particularly young children, can engage with nature in a meaningful way by exploring their five senses. The groundbreaking event is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 15, at 9 a.m. at the Reading Public Museum, marking a significant milestone in the creation of this innovative outdoor environment to honor an extraordinary man. The event is by invitation only.
“Bob welcomed everyone with a peaceful, calming presence, and freely gave his time to those in need. To honor his memory, Chandler Lodge #227 is dedicating both our annual participation in the Arboretum Clean-Up event and the creation of a sensory garden — a space where the community can always enjoy the tranquility he embodied. This garden will forever honor our special friend and brother,” said Victor Frederick, Past Master Pa Freemasons Chandler Lodge #227.
“Bob was a peaceful-spirited man with a passion for nature and the outdoors. A true ‘jack of all trades,’ his talents and dedication touched the lives of many. In collaboration with the Masons, we’re proud to unveil this new educational sensory garden, a beautiful and fitting tribute to Bob’s legacy,” said Pam McIntyre, Reading Public Museum Arboretum Manager.
The Robert W.F. Ciferri Sensory Garden has been creatively designed to offer visitors a “journey” through nature, with interactive elements that engage the senses. The Garden is a sensory-rich, biophilic space designed to engage all five senses, fostering a connection with nature. Featuring flowering trees, seasonal blooms, winding paths, and interactive elements, the garden offers a unique year-round experience for visitors of all ages. The garden’s thoughtful design encourages exploration and a deeper appreciation for the beauty of the natural world.
“I am truly honored to be part of a project that remembers Bob in such a meaningful way. This sensory garden is not only a beautiful space, but it also serves as a lasting tribute to Bob’s legacy. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this special project that will bring joy and connection to so many while honoring Bob’s memory,” said Tony Dinatale, Owner of WORMS Hardscaping & Landscaping.
“New Castle Lawn & Landscape is excited to work with WORMS Hardscaping & Landscaping to build the Robert W.F. Ciferri Sensory Garden. It isn’t every day that we get to team up with another local landscape company to create and build something that the public can use as a space to learn, relax, and reflect in after completing this shared project,” said Phil Neri, Designer of New Caste Lawn & Landscaping Inc.
“We are thrilled that my dad will be remembered near some of the places that he loved so much, and by the Museum and Masons, who he cared about so much. This kind of living memorial is a perfect remembrance,” stated Peter Ciferri, Robert Ciferri’s son.
The Reading Public Museum is supported in part by grants from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and is located at 500 Museum Road, Reading.
