Hamburg falls to Quakertown 4-2 at Region 2 Legion Tournament

Hamburg allowed four runs in the final two innings, including three in the top of the seventh, in falling 4-2 to Quakertown in a winners bracket game of the Region 2 Legion Tournament Saturday at Quakertown.

The Reds led 2-0 heading into the sixth and 2-1 going into the seventh.

Hamburg, which is representing the Schuylkill-Berks League, will face Berks champ Norchester in an elimination game Sunday at 4 p.m.

North Parkland will play South Parkland in an elimination game Sunday at 1 p.m. Quakertown will meet Pennridge in the winners bracket final at 7 p.m.

Quakertown’s Thomas Kuzlusky tripled to lead off in the seventh against Austin Miller, but was cut down at the plate on a grounder to third by Vince Pelligrini. Pelligrini, however, ended up at third following an error. Brayden Schuler then walked and stole second to put runners at second and third.

Michale Richino knocked in the tying run on a fielder’s choice on which everyone was safe. After Hamburg got the second out on a pop-up, Brandon Pierce hit a two-run single to right.

Pellegrini, who pitched a complete game, retired the Reds in order in the bottom half. He allowed two runs on five hits and two walks. He struck out 11.

Miller allowed four earned runs on four hits and three walks in seven innings. He hit two and struck out two.

Hamburg took a 1-0 lead in the third. Braden Fetherolf walked, advanced to second on a passed ball and went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Tyler Shuey. Fetherolf scored on a sacrifice by Scottie Dunleavy.

The Reds made it 2-0 In the fifth. Shuey walked with one out, went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Dunleavy and scored on a single by Conner Licklider.

Quakertown cut it to 2-1 in the sixth. The Blue Jays loaded the bases with one out on a walk and two hit batters.

Ethan Beil grounded into a fielder’s choice, knocking in a run. Following a walk, Miller escaped the jam with a strikeout.

Tristan Baer went 2-for-3 for Hamburg.
