The Hamburg Grange’s All-You-Can-Eat Chicken Pot Pie Dinner raised $4,000 for the Hamburg Public Library’s expansion project.
The Grange served a total of 490 units, which included people who ate in person, purchased quarts and take-out meals, during the dinner held at the Hamburg Area High School in March.
The Grange recently presented a donation of $4,000 to the Hamburg Public Library.
“We want to thank the Hamburg School District for allowing us to hold this worthwhile event so that we could present a check of $4,000 to the Hamburg Public Library for their capital campaign fund,” the Hamburg Grange stated in the announcement.
Hamburg Grange would also like to thank the eight Hamburg Grange members and 18 volunteers who helped, including four Helping Hands Group members, and Thrivent for the financial donation of $250 to make this event successful.
In 2024, the Hamburg Public Library launched “Our Next Chapter,” a capital campaign designed to fund a significant building project to expand and modernize its historic facility that dates back to 1903.
The Hamburg Public Library applied for and was awarded a $750,000 Keystone Library Grant in support of this expansion project from the Office of Commonwealth Libraries, Pennsylvania Department of Education, with funds provided by the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund, according to the capital campaign fund page, https://hamburgsnextchapter.org/support/.
The library will add a two-story addition with a basement to the rear of the existing library, adding 2,650 square feet of space. The second floor of the original library will also be finished for use, including the turret.
The new expanded and enhanced library will include an accessible entrance with a ramp, comfortable seating areas, a dedicated teen area, a dedicated children’s programming space, large public meeting room, small meeting and private study room, additional space for collections and three additional accessible bathrooms, according to the project’s website, https://hamburgsnextchapter.org/about-the-project-2/.
The Hamburg Public Library celebrated its 120th anniversary with a groundbreaking for the planned addition in November 2024.
“We’re thrilled to celebrate both our rich history and our exciting future,” said Chelsea Williams, library director. “The library has been a cornerstone of Hamburg for 120 years, and this new addition will allow us to continue providing valuable services to our community for generations to come.”
