Improvements to the blower building at the Orwigsburg wastewater treatment plant have occurred.
The HVAC improvements, which involved the replacement of the generator room and roof exhaust fans, cost about $45,900, officials said at the May 14 borough council meeting.
Nuvonic/Aquionics serviced one unit over the course of two days in December, then returned in February to service the second unit, replace lamps and examine a potentially bad ballast, officials said.
The water/sewer committee has requested a cost estimate to replace seven vertical loop reactor gates, five actuators, clean a tank, and replace two 10-inch isolation plug valves and actuators.
Utility Services Group has electronically examined portions of Lincoln Avenue and all of Industrial Drive’s sanitary sewer mains. Multiple defects were identified along with inflow and infiltration issues.
The committee was told Entech has compiled an estimate for all new sewer work on Industrial Drive and rehabilitation lining to one section of Lincoln Avenue for $536,000, with $89,309 dedicated to engineering.
Council has requested a reduction in engineering costs for the project, and Entech believes historical survey work will reduce the time for a new engineering proposal that includes design, permitting, bidding assistance, construction observation and services during construction for $59,000.
All bids for a USDA-funded memorial project were rejected because the amounts substantially exceeded the available grant funding, which was received a few years ago.
The Veterans Memorial task force will review the scope of the project and rebid it.
