Intersection of Laurel Street and South Ninth Street in Reading reopened

A section of Laurel Street intersecting with South Ninth Street in Reading has reopened, the city announced Friday.

However, the 600 block of South 9th Street between Laurel and East Laurel streets will remain closed to traffic.

The streets had been closed since the October fire that prompted the partial demolition of the former Lincoln Industrial Chemical Co. building, 600 S. Ninth St.

The Environmental Protection Agency is investigating the site and continues to provide detailed updates on the ongoing activities related to the fire through a dedicated StoryMap

“The City of Reading appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation during these ongoing efforts to ensure public safety,” officials said in a news release.

Further updates will be provided as the situation progresses, the release said.
