Jan Choinski of Great Britan defeated Alexis Galaneau 6-4, 6-1 Friday to win the Ellesse Pro Tennis Challenge at Emkey Tennis Garden.
Choinski is ranked 281st in the world and Galaneau, of Quebec, Canada, is ranked 220th.
Both players battled through morning round robin matches with Choinski defeating Felix Corwin earlier in the day and Galarneau surviving a three-set match against KP Pannu of New Zeland.
Pannu highlighted the event on Thursday night with a underhand serve to between the legs volley winner point that was highlighted nationally later that night on Sportscenter’s Top 10 plays.
Pannu finished 1-1 in group play. Ryan Harrision, the former world top 40 and grand slam doubles champion, finished 0-2 in group play along with York native Holden Koons who also finished 0-2.
The Ellesse Pro Tennis Challenge raises money for underserved youth tennis scholarships for the COR City of Reading Tennis Program through the Reading Rec Commission and raised scholarships for 10 players to play year round in 2024-2025.
