Robbie Ott scored in the first overtime to lift Kutztown to a 1-0 win over Greenwood in a District 3 Class 1A semifinal Saturday at Susquenita High School in Duncannon.
The third-seeded Cougars (19-2) will take on top-seeded and defending champ Tulpehocken, a 3-2 winner over York Catholic Saturday, in the championship game Wednesday at Cumberland Valley’s Eagle View Middle School in Mechanicsburg at 7 p.m.
“The boys are excited to have a chance to play for a district title,” Kutztown coach Jared Diehl said in an email.
Kutztown will be appearing in its first final since 2016, and will be trying for its first district title since 2014, when it beat Tulpehocken 1-0.
The Cougars lost to the Trojans 1-0 at New Schaefferstown on Sept. 13.
In Saturday’s game, Kutztown held second-seeded Greenwood (17-1-1) to one shot while generating 15.
“Struggled to finish throughout the game,” Diehl said. “Our team defense was really good.”
In overtime, Chase Schuler won the ball and found space on the right side. He put the ball in the box, where Ashton Dunn beat the final Greenwood defender to the ball.
“It slipped by both players and Robbie Ott read the play perfectly and finished with his left foot from 10 yards out,” Diehl said.
