Lehigh Valley golf professional to play in PGA Championship in North Carolina

Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort assistant golf professional Brian Bergstol will play in the PGA Championship this weekend at Quail Hollow Country Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Bergstol, a Bangor High School graduate, qualified for the major by tying for third place in the PGA Professional Championship April 27-30 at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

It will be Bergstol’s second appearance in a major – he qualified for the 2008 U.S. Open.

At the PGA Professional Championship, Bergstol, who lives in Nazareth, shot a four-round total of 283 (69, 69, 73, 72) and won $36,700.

Bergstol will tee off in Thursday’s first round at 12:47 p.m. on the 10th tee. He will be teamed with Austin Eckroat and Jacob Bridgeman. They will then tee off Friday at 7:27 a.m. on the first tee.

Defending champion Xander Schauffele is teamed with this year’s Masters champion Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler. They will tee off Thursday at 8:22 a.m. on the 10th tee and 1:47 p.m. Friday on the first tee.

CBS and ESPN will broadcast the tournament, with ESPN being the primary network on Thursday and Friday.
