A few things that the Chicago Tribune failed to note in the Dec. 6 editorial execrating President Joe Biden’s pardon of his son.
First, President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for attorney general, Kash Patel, has explicitly threatened to persecute just about anyone associated with Biden. Why? Because he doesn’t like Democrats.
Second, Olivia Troye, who worked for Trump and has since spilled the beans on his execrable behavior, has received a letter from Patel threatening her with legal action if she does not recant her testimony.
Third, Trump himself has vowed to persecute anyone who did anything against him. Biden is therefore contemplating pardoning a whole host of people, from former Rep. Liz Cheney on the right to Rep. Adam Schiff on the left.
The editorial should have pointed out the unprecedented threat that the incoming president represents to anything resembling justice. Indeed, I’m a bit concerned that a letter like this might find its way into the hands of Patel, and insignificant though I am, I too will become a target of the incoming administration.
