Members 1st FCU opens branch in Williamsport

Members 1st Federal Credit Union has opened its newest branch in Williamsport in Lycoming County — the result of a spin-off agreement with First Harvest Credit Union.

First Harvest and Members 1st submitted a spin-off transaction in October 2023, which was approved by the National Credit Union Administration earlier this year, on Feb. 12.

The decision to move forward was made official following a member vote on April 8, which cleared the way for members of the Williamsport branch to become members and associates of Members 1st.

Now that the spin-off and transition are completed, the new Members 1st branch, 1935 E. 3rd St. in Williamsport, hosted a grand opening event on Friday for members and the community.

“We are excited to celebrate the opening of this new branch with the Williamsport community,” Michael Wilson, president & CEO of Members 1st, said in a statement. “We look forward to building meaningful relationships in communities across the region and providing personalized service — from advice and support to a full suite of financial tools designed to help both our consumer and small business members live well financially.” Wilson, who grew up in the area, said it fills him with “joy to give back to the community that helped shape me.”

Harvest First is a New Jersey-based credit union, and the Williamsport branch had been its only Pennsylvania location. Mike Dinneen, First Harvest president and CEO, had previously said that it became evident that the branch’s members and employees would be better served by a strong, local credit union.

Among the benefits cited by spinning the branch off as a Members 1st location is convenience, according to the companies. Members of the branch now have access to Members 1st’s nearly 60 Pennsylvania branches.

Members 1st operates branch locations across 11 Pennsylvania counties, including three locations in Berks County — in Exeter, Cumru and South Heidelberg townships.
