Mid Penn Bank donates $100,000 to PA Breast Cancer Coalition

MILLERSBURG — Mid Penn Bank recently made a $100,000 donation to the PA Breast Cancer Coalition, continuing its 8-year partnership with the organization.

The Millersburg-based bank — which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mid Penn Bancorp Inc., made the donation this week during the coalition’s 30th Anniversary Conference in Harrisburg. The donation was presented by Rory Ritrievi, Mid Penn Bank President/CEO and PA Breast Cancer Coalition Board Member, from funds raised by the 2023 Mid Penn Bank Celebrity Golf Classic, held in July.

“In Pennsylvania, 38 women are diagnosed with breast cancer daily. The PA Breast Cancer Coalition works tirelessly to find a cure for this deadly disease and to improve the lives of women in PA living with breast cancer,” Ritrievi said in a statement. “I could not be more proud to serve on the board of this wonderful organization and to support its mission and work, which, ultimately, is to find a cure for breast cancer now so that our daughters don’t have to.”

The conference began with a Pink Party on Monday, Oct. 16 to celebrate cancer survivors and PA Breast Cancer Coalition grassroots partners. The organization awarded the Mid Penn Bank Shining Light Award to “Rally Fore the Cure,” an annual golf outing in support of the coalition’s programs and services. Since 2018, “Rally Fore the Cure” has raised $110,000 for the PA Breast Cancer Coalition.

“We are honored to have Mid Penn Bank as a partner in our fight against breast cancer. This gift will help us continue to fund breast cancer research and to advocate for women,” Pat Halpin-Murphy, PA Breast Cancer Coalition president and founder said in a statement.

To support its mission, the PA Breast Cancer Coalition has contributed nearly $5 million to researchers in Pennsylvania and has advocated for legislation that would provide screening and treatment to women with breast cancer. It also provides support and resources to newly diagnosed women, according to a press release.

This is the eighth year Mid Penn has raised money for the PA Breast Cancer Coalition through its annual Celebrity Golf Classic.

The donation to the PA Breast Cancer Coalition was the second donation the bank made to breast cancer causes this month. On Oct. 3, Mid Penn made a $100,000 donation to the Basser Center for BRCA at Penn Medicine in Philadelphia. The Basser Center is the first comprehensive center for the research, treatment, and prevention of BRCA-related cancers. The hereditary mutations affect both women and men and can increase lifetime risks for cancers including breast, ovarian, pancreatic, prostate, and melanoma.

Mid Penn Bank operates 49 branches in 17 Pennsylvania counties, including Berks, Bucks, Chester, Lancaster, Montgomery and Schuylkill counties.
