Miller-Keystone Blood Center (MKBC) has launched a newly redesigned website for the center. The new site — which can still be reached by visiting GIVEaPINT.org — officially went live on Wednesday, Jan. 10.
The center’s previous website was created in 2016. While it was still functional and up-to-date, according to Keith Vogrin, director of marketing for Miller-Keystone Blood Center, the site had started to “show its age” with decreasing speed and outdated capabilities.
“Website visitors will immediately notice the change with a clean, professional appearance,” Vogrin said in a statement. “Individuals visiting our redesigned website will find it much easier to navigate, schedule blood donations, and access their own ‘donor portal.’”
Among the new or updated features of the redesigned site are:
• Revised menu options that provide clear and easy-to-find links to important items, such as online appointment scheduling, MKBC locations and hours, iScreen (the Blood Center’s online medical screening application), current blood donor eligibility guidelines, how to make a financial donation, and career opportunities.
• Real time information on the status of the community’s blood supply, including whole blood, red cells and platelets.
• Upcoming community blood drives, blood donor promotions, and giveaways.
• Opportunities to read about the lives impacted by MKBC’s blood donors from transfusion recipients that live in the community.
In addition, visitors to the site can connect with MKBC through links to social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly known as Twitter) and LinkedIn; as well as access to the center’s monthly e-newsletter and the opportunity to opt-in to subscribe.
Marie Clemens, corporate director of communications for Miller-Keystone Blood Center, as some websites begin to age, the functionality decreases.
“Items contained on the site can start to get cluttered, which often makes it more difficult for some visitors to find information. If it takes more than one or two clicks to locate the information, many of them will simply give up,” she said in a statement.
The new Miller-Keystone Blood Center website also features new educational videos throughout the site, including a virtual tour of the Blood Center, the platelet donation process, and information for first-time blood donors.
As blood supplies continue to be at critical levels both regionally and nationally, Miller-Keystone Blood Center said in a press release it needs approximately 350 blood donors every day to meet the needs of local hospitals. Among the hospitals Miller-Keystone Blood Center serves is Tower Health. To schedule a blood donation, call 800-B-A-DONOR or visit GIVEaPINT.org.
