Two Berks County football players who were integral parts of their teams, including an all-state long jumper in track and field, have decided where they will pursue their academic and athletic careers next fall.
Xavier Beatty, the Reading High senior who placed second in the Class 3A long jump at the PIAA Track and Field Championships last May, announced he will be attending Lock Haven University.
Beatty, a receiver and defensive back, jumped 23-1½ last May to place second in the state meet. He also plays basketball for the Red Knights.
This fall, Beatty was the team’s leading receiver, catching 22 passes for 367 yards and two touchdowns.
He also played defensive back.
Hamburg quarterback Ty Shuey announced that he will be attending Ursinus College in Collegeville.
Shuey passed for 1,490 yards, completing 95 of 165 attempts. He threw 12 touchdown passes with just one interception.
He also rushed for 399 yards on 92 carries and scored seven touchdowns.
Also on Tuesday, Twin Valley cornerback Brendan Yagle announced that he will be playing at Eastern University in St. Davids.
