The No. 1 seeds in Class 2A and Class 3A in Flight 1 advanced to the semifinals in the BCIAA girls tennis flight tournament Friday.
Defending champ Emma Perkins of Conrad Weiser, the No. 1 Class 2A seed, and Muhlenberg’s Judith Manta, the No. 1 seed in Class 3A, moved through their respective brackets.
Also moving on were Hamburg’s Mia Gassert, the No. 3 seed in 2A, and Exeter’s Anya Whitman, the No. 2 seed in 3A.
The tournament continues today at Muhlenberg and Schuylkill Valley, starting at 9 a.m.
Manta will face Gassert in one semifinal. Perkins will face Whitman in the other. Those winners will meet for the Flight 1 title Monday.
Perkins defeated Fleetwood’s Shannen Cawley 6-1, 6-1 in her first match, then downed fifth-seeded Elise Wang of Wyomissing 6-0, 6-0. Gassert beat Brandywine Heights’ Abby Davidheiser 6-0, 6-0, then defeated second-seeded Ali Saad of Wyomissing 6-1, 6-1.
In Class 3A, Manta played just one match to advance to the crossover semifinals, beating Reading High’s Ashley Retana 6-0, 6-0.
Whitman opened with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Wilson’s Anisha Aggarwal, then downed third-seeded Jen Manta of Muhlenberg 5-7 ,6-3, 6-3.
