Orwigsburg Borough Council discussed a request to allow a sign advertising a business on the town square.
The issue was referred to the economic development committee, but the general feeling at the Oct. 11 council meeting was that signage on the square would not be coming anytime soon.
Hawk Mountain Antiques, a recently established business in the borough, sent a letter to council seeking permission to erect a 3- by 8-foot semi-permanent marquee at Market and Wayne streets.
Borough Manager Randall Miller said Orwigsburg has never allowed such signage on the square. Solicitor Paul Datte agreed, saying that if one business is granted such a request, others would soon expect the same. Another concern was traffic visibility with such a sign.
Council agreed to Councilman Tim Wilhelm’s suggestion that the discussion be referred to the economic development committee for further consideration.
There was a brief discussion on a proposed solar farm along a portion of West Market Street. A planning commission meeting will occur on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. followed by a zoning hearing board meeting on Oct. 23 at 6 p.m.
