Orwigsburg receives state grant for dam repairs

Orwigsburg was awarded a $125,000 state grant for repairs and dredging at Fishers Dam.

In other business at the Feb. 12 borough council meeting, officials said Keystone Engineering continues to progress with the installation of the borough’s new water SCADA software system. The upgrade project has been ongoing over the past year. Work in late February will consist of tying into a filter logic system and establishing the brains of the system.

Two new permits at a value of $114,953 were issued by the borough along with five renovation permits at a total of $509,453.

A crosswalk police detail was conducted during January. One warning and one citation were issued.

Six officers handled 148 incidents in January. Friendship Hose Company #1 handled 24 calls for the month .

The borough’s 2025 schedule of events was approved and includes an egg hunt on Apr. 12, the fishing rodeo at a date  to be determined, a Memorial Day parade on May 27 and Summer Salsa Night on July 17 in the M&T lot.

Coming events include the next borough planning commission meeting on Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. in council chambers, the zoning hearing board meeting on Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. in council chambers, and the next council meeting on March 12 at 7 p.m. in council chambers.
