Here are some of the outstanding performances from Berks athletes for the week of Sept. 30 – Oct. 6.
Field hockey
Wyomissing junior Lola Gentile scored three goals as the Spartans defeated Middletown 6-1.
Football
Muhlenberg junior running back Cameron Small broke the school’s single game rushing record with 346 rushing yards in a 56-28 loss against Exeter.
Boys soccer
Wilson senior Tommy McFadden scored three goals and had an assist as Wilson defeated Reading High 8-0.
Girls soccer
Exeter junior Mackenzie Mentzer scored three goals in the Eagles’ 4-0 win over Twin Valley to break the Eagles all-time scoring record. Mentzer has 50 career goals.
Girls tennis
Hamburg senior Mia Gassert won the BCIAA Flight 1 individual championship after defeating Wilson’s Jin Lin Chen 6-2, 6-2.
Girls volleyball
Brandywine Heights senior Greta Kline had 11 kills, 24 assists, 17 digs and six aces as the Bullets defeated Daniel Boone 3-2.
Boys water polo
Oley Valley senior Evan Carl broke Exeter’s single season scoring record with his 124th goal of the season in games played at Hazleton. Carl had six goals, three assists and four steals in an 18-6 win against Hazleton, and had seven goals, two assists and one block in a 15-6 win over Upper Perkiomen.
Girls water polo
Exeter senior Maddy McCraw made eight saves in a 11-3 win against Hazleton as well as six saves, one steal and three assists in a 14-8 win over Upper Perkiomen.
Boys cross country
Wyomissing senior David Giles had the fastest time among Berks runners on Friday at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University. Giles ran 15:54.8 for the 5,000-meter course.
Girls cross country
Gov. Mifflin senior Lydia Drago ran the fastest time for Berks runners at the Paul Short Cross Country Invitational at Lehigh University on Friday. Drago ran the 5,000-meter course in 18:17.7.
