A procession was held for Officer Andrew Duarte on Monday as his body was escorted from the York County coroner’s office to Lehigh Valley Hospital.
Duarte was killed in the line of duty at UPMC Memorial in West Manchester Township on Saturday. The West York officer was part of a team that responded to a hostage situation at the hospital and was killed in a shootout with gunman Diogenes Archangel-Ortiz.
The Lancaster County Fire Chiefs Association asked for fire companies to assist with paying their respects by lining up vehicles and personnel on the overpasses along Route 30 and Route 222 as Duarte’s procession made its way to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Salisbury Township.
An autopsy for Duarte is scheduled at the hospital Monday.
A fund has been created to assist Duarte’s family. Gov. Josh Shapiro ordered flags to half-staff in Pennsylvania until the date of Duarte’s interment.
