PA reactivates Berks advisory council to human relations commission

The Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission has reactivated the Berks County Advisory Council to the commission.

The advisory council will serve as a local voice in advancing civil rights, promoting equity and addressing discrimination in Berks, state officials said in a release.

The advisory council will meet virtually on the third Monday of each month, bringing together residents, advocates and community leaders to collaborate on issues related to civil and human rights.

The next meeting will take place Aug. 18.

“We are excited to relaunch the Berks County Advisory Council to the PHRC and welcome its members into our broader statewide network,” said Chad Dion Lassiter, commission executive director. “Our advisory councils are instrumental in connecting the PHRC’s mission to the communities we serve. By listening to local voices and elevating community priorities, we can more effectively fight discrimination and build a more equitable Pennsylvania.”

Officials also announced that the council selected Tom Herman to serve as chair. A longtime advocate for community development and inclusion in Berks, Herman brings passion and experience to the role, officials said.

“I’m honored to help lead the reactivated Berks County Advisory Council,” Herman said. “This is an opportunity for our community to come together, share ideas and take action to advance fairness, dignity and opportunity for everyone in Berks County.”

For more information about the advisory council or to join the next meeting, email the commission at RA-HRPHRCAdvCoun@pa.gov or go to the advisory council page at on the PHRC website.
